The New York Times, Agenda Setting, and the Problem with Vote-by-Mail.
I am going to use The New York Times to take a look at the agenda-setting upon visiting their YouTube channel and their website today. However, first, let us go over what agenda setting is. Agenda setting is a media platform’s ability to raise the importance of a specific issue in the public’s mind. It does not tell us how to think, but by showing us repeated news about an issue it raises its importance. Think about it another way… people also talk about current events to other people on a daily basis. These conversations occur every day with our friends, significant others, family, colleagues, co-workers, classmates, or even strangers!
The media cannot tell you what to think, but by covering certain issues they are giving us the topics to talk about. The following video explains this further.
